At FPLV, we combine shelter, employment support, practical support to remove barriers, and individualized case management into one coordinated model designed to help families move from crisis toward stability.

One example of this is Elena and her two children.

Elena came to Family Promise after losing her job when her daughter became ill. As a mother of two, she had to miss work to care for her family. Eventually, that led to the loss of her job, falling behind on rent, and facing homelessness.

When Elena arrived at the Family Navigation Center, she was determined to rebuild. During her six months with Family Promise, she worked closely with our team on employment goals, participated in mock interviews, applied for jobs, and continued taking the next step forward — even when childcare and stable employment remained major barriers.

Family Promise was able to provide temporary childcare support while Elena worked toward a long-term solution. She applied for state childcare assistance and was successfully approved. With stable childcare in place, Elena was able to obtain and maintain steady employment at a childcare center — a job that also allowed her son to be cared for while she worked.

On June 20, Elena achieved a major milestone: she moved into her own apartment with her two children. They chose a keychain that says, “Beauty in the Struggle.”

Her story is an example of how the right support at the right time can change the direction of a family’s life. Shelter mattered. Employment support mattered. Childcare mattered. Case management mattered. Relationships with the team members and volunteers matters. After-care matters. And together, these supports are helping Elena to move from crisis to stability.

Family Promise of Las Vegas is turning 30 and we are celebrating in a way that reflects the heart of our mission: families with children.

Our 30 Year Anniversary Family Fun Festival, presented by Eagle One Construction, LLC, will be a free, family-centered community event bringing together families we serve, former Family Promise families, volunteers, community partners, churches, local businesses, sponsors, donors, and the broader Las Vegas community for an evening of celebration. The festival will include carnival-style games, activities for kids, crafts, entertainment including a family friendly variety show, educational and development resources, music, and opportunities for families to simply enjoy time together. It will be Wednesday, September 30 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Community Lutheran Church. Register below!

Family Promise: Local Impact, National Movement: Many people know Family Promise of Las Vegas for the work happening right here in Southern Nevada, but we are also part of a powerful national network dedicated to ending family homelessness. Last year, Family Promise served 31,000 families and 48,000 children nationwide through core programs including eviction prevention, shelter diversion, emergency shelter, stabilization, and housing.

When including the support of Family Promise Affiliates across the country, more than 100,000 children were served nationally, with 88% of families exiting into permanent or other positive housing situations. We are proud that Family Promise of Las Vegas contributes to this larger movement while continuing to provide local, family-centered solutions that help parents and children move from crisis to stability.
