Too often, the role of fathers facing homelessness goes unseen. At Family Promise of Las Vegas, we believe every parent deserves the chance to provide a safe, stable home for their children. Here are two stories of fathers whose determination—and your support—made all the difference.

A Father’s Second Chance

As with all fathers, Kelly’s life changed when he became a parent. But in Kelly’s case, his infant daughter Trudence inspired him to make a complete turnaround.

Kelly was incarcerated when he first learned he had a daughter in foster care, and he decided to correct his path immediately to gain custody of her. Upon his release, he entered a sober living facility—but children weren’t allowed there. That’s when Kelly was referred to Family Promise.

Trudence was only four months old when he met her for the first time. Though he wasn’t yet eligible for full custody, he was determined to build a new life for her.

“I didn’t know how to balance my life,” he recalls. “I needed help with my finances, finding a job, finding housing, everything. Family Promise helped me figure it all out.”

With the support of our case management team, Kelly secured employment, learned to budget, and began caring for his daughter five days a week. From daycare visits to diapers, Family Promise walked beside him every step of the way. When it came time to find housing, we helped him overcome the barriers of no rental history and secure a home through a local income-based program.

Today, Kelly and Trudence are thriving—proof that with support, determination, and community, families can be kept together and given a new future.

A Fight for Stability

Jason came to Family Promise of Las Vegas unemployed, homeless, and desperate for help as a single father raising a child with special needs.

Together with our case management team, Jason created a plan that addressed immediate needs while building toward long-term stability. With our support, he secured employment and safe housing, providing his child not only with a roof overhead but also with hope for a brighter future.

Today, Jason and his child have a stable life and renewed confidence in what lies ahead.
