As we enter this season of gratitude, I’ve been reflecting on the people and moments that shaped both my life and the work we do here at Family Promise of Las Vegas. Recently, my family and I experienced the loss of my grandfather, a man whose back-breaking labor, sacrifice, and love created opportunities for future generations. While I mourn his passing, I also feel peace and deep gratitude. His legacy reminds me every day why this work matters so much.
The support I received from our staff and Board during this time felt like the same steady foundation my grandparents provided throughout my life. When our own family, my mom raising five children, was struggling, they stepped in with safety, stability, and unconditional love. It reminded me of you as well, a dear friend whose belief in our mission and generosity of time, talent, and treasure helps families feel that same safety and hope.
Because of your support, thousands of families have found stability and a path forward during their hardest moments. This month, as families anxiously awaited news about their SNAP benefits, you made it possible for us to provide two weeks of groceries and grocery gift cards, ensuring no child went to bed hungry. Your impact lives in stories like William’s. There story was featured on 8 News Now last night. Check it out below:
William and his partner Crystlynn, and two daughters experienced homelessness in two states after housing became unaffordable. With nothing left but hope, they came to Family Promise of Las Vegas. Through our Motel Shelter Program, they found stability and a new beginning. William has been working three jobs, and his wife is working two, all without transportation. This month, he received the life-changing gift of a reliable vehicle through the Recycled Rides Program, turning hours on public transit into precious time with his family. Moments like these remind me exactly why we do this work and why your support is so powerful.
My grandparents clothed us, fed us, and sheltered us when we needed it most. They offered stability during uncertainty, just as you help us offer stability to the families we serve. Their love changed my life, and your generosity changes the lives of families every day.
As we gather with loved ones this Thanksgiving, please know how profoundly grateful I am for you. Your compassion, partnership, and belief in this mission make all this possible.
